How God Sees You

If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?  And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.  John 3:12-13

And Ammon said; Yes, and he looketh down upon all the children of men; and he knows all the thoughts and intents of the heart; for by his hand were they all created from the beginning.  Alma 18:32

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.  Jeremiah 1:5

That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:  For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.  Acts 17:27-28

Behold, the Lord hath created the earth that it should be in habited; and he hath created his children that they shall posses it.  1 Nephi 17:36

". . . God is love."   In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.  1 John 4:8-9

By these scriptures, we know that we were with God as his spirit children before we came to earth and received our bodies.  He is our Heavenly Father, literally.  He loves us and he knows us.  All that He does is for our good that we might return to live with Him some day.  I suddenly got a better perspective on this just today.

Every year when my adult children have their birthdays, images and memories of them as babies and children come to my mind quite vividly.  I recall carrying each one within me and feeling that first stirring as a tiny wonder filled flutter that confirmed there was a living person growing within.  Waiting for each child to be born seemed like a forever wait fluctuating between fear for their safety and the highest elation full of expectations and excitement.  Seeing each of my newborn children for the first time is indelibly imprinted on my mind and in my heart.  Love beyond comprehension swept over me and the true miracle was that my heart somehow expanded with the birth of each one as love flowed in and made room to love each one individually, equally, and with every part of my being.  As they grew, the joy expanded in their first of everything that comes with a child.  The first smile, first little bobbing head held up, first turn over, first word, first step . . .  Parental pride filled me as I enjoyed their talents that emerged and the different personalities.

Now, as adults, my children cannot make me not love them by any action.  Some of them have messed up once in a while in their lives throughout the years, but I still see who they are.  I know their potential and that they can figure it out and find the happiness they seek.  I may not have always approved of their choices or actions, but I have never loved them less.  I pray for their safety and peace.  My words and actions are directed towards their overall welfare.  This helps me understand a little better God's love for us.

Whenever we think we cannot possibly be loved by God when we make mistakes in our lives, remember we were with him before we came to this earth.  He has known us longer than we've known our loved ones on earth.  He knows us better than any earthly parent ever will, and his tender feelings for us are based on who we really are and who we can become.  He sees what is going on with us here, hoping we'll figure it out and return to Him some day.  He has watched every tiny step we have taken since the time we were just spirits with Him and He is there ready to catch us if we fall.  He has provided the way and means for us to make it through life and gain Eternal Life through our eldest brother, Jesus Christ and His Atonement.

God sees us through the greatest of love beyond our comprehension.  Think of that the next time you are being hard on yourself.  You are a child of God.  You are precious in His sight.  He remembers when He first held you in His arms.  He waits to embrace you again.
