A missionary is someone who leaves his or her home for a little while so others can have their families forever.

Our Mission Scriptures

Our Mission Scriptures:

"Oh, that I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart . . . Yea, I would declare unto every soul, as with the voice of thunder, repentance and the plan of redemption, that they should repent and come unto our God, that there might not be more sorrow upon all the face of the earth." Alma 29:1-2 (Book of Mormon)

" . . . be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Corinthians 15:58 (Bible)

An Angel Stepped In

"And when we cried unto the Lord, he heard our voice, and sent an angel . . ."  Numbers 20:16

I saw something I shall never forget today.  We attended a funeral where the program was presented mostly by close family members.  A grandson (age 12) said the opening prayer.  A daughter spoke about memories of her father. The granddaughter (age 10), singing beautifully, made it bravely through the first verse of, "I Know My Savior Loves Me," and then broke down weeping, falling into her mother's arms.  The lovely woman playing the piano seamlessly picked up singing the song exactly on beat with the second verse.  It was an orchestration of an angel coming to the rescue of a little girl who wanted to sing for her grandfather who had passed on.  The miracle of it all was the voices were similar enough there was not one moment of incongruity with the tune or the message.  It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever witnessed of how Heavenly Father uses people and their talents to bless the lives of others.

The marvelous woman at the piano was found earlier busily setting up tables when we arrived to help this morning before the funeral.  She was helping with the food and in every area she was needed.  Before the services, she was found at the piano playing the prelude music.  After she maintained the beautiful spirit of the meeting by rescuing the grieving granddaughter, she went to the stand to deliver a lovely remembrance talk for the deceased, who was a good friend she'd known since she was a young girl!  Immediately after that, she went to the piano to be ready to play the closing hymn.  Later, she was found helping with the food again!  That woman is an angel on earth.  No wonder she was given so many talents on this earth--He knew she'd use them in the service of others, to lift their burdens, to succor others who stand in need, and to lift their spirits.

"And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face, I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up."  Doctrine and Covenants 84:88

An older woman told me at church on Sunday that she had what should have been a bad fall during the week, but as she was going down she asked God to help her.  She marveled that as she fell she was aware that she was being let down as gently as a baby in a crib.  She suffered no pain upon impact and not a single side effect of injury.  She said she knows if she had not been helped that she would have been terribly injured due to her weight and age.

Never doubt that you have angels about you.  God does not overlook any of His children.  He knows you and cares what is happening in your life.  It is usually through others he blesses us, but sometimes those "others" that are near cannot be seen.
